Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution dedicated to providing quality, career-focused undergraduate programs. The Community College (UDC-CC) seeks enthusiastic and qualified part-time instructors to teach courses in Architectural Engineering and Computer Aided Design (CAD). The Architectural Engineering Technology program prepares students for entry-level positions in the industry or for transfer to a 4-year degree program.

Classes are scheduled to meet student needs. Adjunct faculty may teach up to 11 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on enrollment and staffing needs. Instruction may occur during the day, evening, or weekend. The hiring decision for part-time faculty is at Management’s sole discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule.
  • Plan instructional activities, including lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects.
  • Hold office hours for student conferences at least one hour per week.
  • Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance and grades electronically in a timely manner.
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning and maintain classroom control.
  • Attend all meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as specified by the Chief Community College Officer and/or Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Adhere to University policies and guidelines regarding academics, student, and staff conduct.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in Architecture or a related Engineering discipline.
  • At least one year of teaching experience.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Must maintain expertise and technical competencies in the applicable field of study.
